Vallée des Incas - Canon de Colca

Depart from Iquique, Gaudelin always in the direction of Arequipa, while 3 buses a day and travel time to cross the border and multiple identity checks on the road.

In Arequipa, found Camille, who had crossed to San Pedro and we were ahead, and explores the center of town around the Place des Armes. Many cathedrals, marches, all dominated by snow-capped volcanoes over 5800 meters.

We then left all 4 for a day half of the hike in the Colca Canyon . For that, we had the chance to be good advice, especially we are not going through an agency. After 6 hours of bus, we arrived the first evening Cabanaconde , or it was very well greeted by the Catalans. It turns out that at that time there was a religious festival, and we could watch the fireworks at night!

The next day we finally share in the valley towards an oasis located at the bottom. On the way, we travel through magnificent scenery, and it passes through some small mountain villages. Not more than twenty families live there, supplied by mules, and living through the export of cactus fruit.
We finally arrived in the early after-noon at the oasis, or a hot water naturally flows. So we have to bathe before going to bed with the sun, since there is no electricity!

The next day, climb up rough Cabanaconde before a meal of steak deserves alpaca, and back to Arequipa.

Humberstone San Pedro de Atacama

We start from San Pedro with Gaudelin for a night bus heading for Iquique. We are supposed to arrive at 5am, but for the first time, we lied in the opposite direction since came with 1:30 in advance! So we end up at 3:30 in Iquique with our big bags and only two taxis to get to the center.
Finally, we come not too get on the tube your taxi, from the hostel and we filed is closed! So it crosses part of the city to find a cheap hotel.

It thus ends our night before leaving in the direction of Humberstone, a few miles of Iquique. There is a colectivo that rises in the mountains to finally arrive at the site, has more than 1000 meters above sea level. It is an old mining town, which has been completely abandoned after the discovery of chemical fertilizer (it has so far behind in the blog that can not be more accurate to say anything!) .

Since then, associations are trying to restore it, and you can stroll to discover buildings and buildings in the homes of older people. There are also some exhibits where you can discover everyday objects from the era.
Several neighborhoods comprise the city: those or accommodated the leaders, those for married workers and the guard, unmarried workers. It was a full-fledged town, with its museums, theater (or the greatest of the era came to play), his walk, his school and hotel with swimming pool housed in the carcass of a boat.

After a few pleasant hours under a blazing sun, or we thought we were in a western, we go to Iquique, where we had to wait a moment beside the a bus route passes the stop not running.
Back in the mist, or we take the end of Sunday to visit the city with a stroll up the beach, or we could see a surfer. It must be said that one Sunday Sunny autumn, there are not many people in the streets!

Depart the next day to Peru.

Letter Of Disconnection Ofinternet

We leave La Serena at night, towards Calama. After exploring the center of Calama in 10 minutes, time to eat empanadas, we move toward San Pedro de Atacama, 2500 meters, in the middle of the desert.
is a small village where there are probably more tourists than inhabitants, but as the season has not started, it was bearable.

We explored the area, with the first Quitor Pukara, where we observed the ruins of a fortification built in the XIIth century, and climbing with a treestand of or had a view of the oasis and the Valle de la Muerte.

Then we went a bit further into the desert, with a visit to the Valle de la Luna, a desert valley that resembles the lunar landscape but where we find the remains of mines salt. Walking along the rocks with salt, you can hear them crack, which is quite impressive!
After, we went to the other side of the Valle de la Muerte, before watching the sunset over the Andes.

We then found Olivia and Jeremy that we follow from Valparaiso, and we had Gaudelin meeting Cordoba and who joined us from Argentina.

The next day we enjoy the atmosphere of the village before heading towards a obervatoire from where you can explore the sky. Unfortunately, although the sky is clear over 300 days a year, this night there were clouds, and our trip was canceled.

We caught up the next day: sunrise at 3:30 and departure to El Tatio, at 4,200 meters altitude. Arrive at sunrise to see the highest geyser field in the world. At this hour the temperature difference between the outside (-10 degrees) and the Geysers is the largest, and so we see more activity. In fact, we are at the top of kilometers of magma, and geysers are tubes of several hundred meters filled with water. Thus, according to the geyser, you can see the water boiling or fumes.

In particular, there is a pool or you can swim in water at 30 degrees.

On the way back we discovered the flora and fauna of the region including llamas (that we could eat) and Vicuña.

Finally, before leaving, we witnessed the activities of the village with a circus and a concert of Andean music first in the church!

We continue the journey with Gaudelin, departing from night to Iquique

Simple Confidential Clause

We arrive Sunday night at La Serena, and our first impression is that it's quiet! We join our family hotel has two steps away before looking for a restaurant open on Sundays!
The next day we discovered the city, which should be very animated in summer, but not crazy in this season. We still attend a peaceful demonstration for the inhabitants of the valley of Elqui.

we even went to the beach, see the lighthouse and hotels under construction.

The next day we climbed a bit in the valley, in going Vicuña. We were able to walk down the deserted streets until the mountain of the virgin, or we had a view over the city and the surrounding vineyards.

Because if this valley is known, because it is a major production center of the national drink (in competition with Peru): pisco.
We visited the plant Capel, where we learned the method for making pisco. As always, the best time of the visit was the tasting!

In fact, the Chilean pisco drink with coca, more frequently a Pisco Sour: Pisco, lemon, sugar and a little egg white (or triple sec), you Shaqu and it is delicious!

We do not linger in La Serena, Calama and we leave for a 14h bus, or we will change for San Pedro de Atacama.
